We're Being Followed!

Often out on the bay, there are sea lions that appear in solo, team or larger group formations. The first time I saw these guys I thought they were Scuba Divers Surfacing all around me. I wonder what the Hobie hulls mean to these guys.

Hobie 20 Sailing in 2014 -- Sail Trim in Photos

Might make more way if I dropped the traveler car down a bit... [Photo: Jim Laws, IYC]

Sail trim can be tricky without an objective 3rd party watching from away from the boat. These photos are some records of 2014 races and trims. All are courtesy of IYC Member and Photographer Jim Laws.

More Forward Weight would prevent "Jasmine" from dragging her bottom in the water... [Photo: Jim Laws, IYC]
Sailing with a brand new Jib, "Jasmine" responded well, winning 1 race and taking 3rd in another during the IYC 2014 season. I'm not sure why I'm grimacing in this photo, but with one hull completely flying, the boat is sailing pretty well in this shot. Wetted surface area is reduced and we're off.

More Crew/Skipper Weight Forward may help here. BUT: Burying the leeward hull a bit... [Photo: Jim Laws, IYC]
Catching a gust from the Estero, Jasmine dug her bow in, so a little weight aft kept her pretty balanced. Apparently, the optimum crew weight is 350lbs. for this boat.

Note the Broken Batten 4th from the top. This foiled some Tacks by preventing the main from "Popping Over" and has now been replaced.
