Dealing with Sunroof

Good Coverage from another 944 blog -- I think my lifting cable "drive dog" is to blame

  1. So the above picture shows the view with the left rear carpet pulled back, of the sunroof lifting cable. Does anyone know if the black lifting cable fitting in the center of the picture is missing its "drive dog" ?? I'm puzzled how this thing actually works. At the moment, it doesn't.

  2. Another source of sunroof troubleshooting data: http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/944_Sunroof/944_sunroof.htm

However, the term "drive dog" is not mentioned here.

  3. Ok, I'm starting to see how the system works. The drive cable must be in essence, a flexible worm gear which turns gears attached to the 2 extending arms which act as a moving rack. My trouble seems to be with the fixed end of the lifting cable itself which is pushing itself around at the base instead of extending dutifully through the drive tube like a good lifting cable.
